According to epidemiologic surveys, prevalence of GI diseases such as colorectal, gastric, esophageal, or pancreatic cancers, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and celiac has been on the rise in Iran over the recent decades. Due to their chronic and progressive nature, it is reasonable to expect increase in incidence and prevalence of these diseases in the coming years.
Information from clinical data registries can be used to improve care for such patients in the future by helping healthcare professionals and health policy-makers to make relevant decisions for disease control, prevention, and management.
Poursina Hakim Digestive Diseases Research Center (PDDRC) has designed and implemented Isfahan IBD Surveillance Project (IISP) to make a surveillance registry system in this area. It has also designed registry systems for GI cancers and Celiac diseases in order to have more accurate estimation of occurrence of these diseases in the community.
